What Kind of Learner Are You?

This week we were asked to take a survey to see what kind of learner we are. The survey is compiled of about 40 questions and it gave you your results once you were finished. Their were 4 sets of styles of that your results could be. You could either be an active or reflective learner, sensing or intuitive learner, visual or verbal learner, and sequential or global leaner. My results came out to be that I am reflective learner, which means when I learn something new I like to think about it quietly to myself. I am a intuitive learner meaning that I like new ideas and do not like repetition. I am a visual learner which means that I learn better with visual things like videos, pictures, charts, etc. Lastly, I am a sequential learner meaning that I like to learn in steps, not learning the whole thing then connecting everything else.

Everyone should take the time to complete this survey because it helped me learn a little about how I like to learn. This information can be very helpful when it comes to studying or choosing classes. I know that I will do better in a class with a teacher that uses a lot of videos and charts rather than a teacher that lectures. So take 5 minutes out of your day and learn a little about yourself!

Wanna Play Guitar Anyone?

This youtube video is about learning how to play guitar. I have always wanted to learn how to play an instrument and guitar is definetly the coolest. The closest I have gotten to playing an instrument was the recorder in 5th grade. This particular video is called "Guitar 101" it only teaches the basics of guitar. There are series of this same guy teaching different lessons on how to play.

This video enhances my learning because I can see the instructor in front of me and I can repeat what he does when I am learning new notes. I can see the exact string he is playing and I can reiterate the same on my guitar at home. It is a lot easier to learn when I have an example in front of me to look off of. One cool thing that is also featured on this video is Closed Captioning. This video is also compatable for Deaf people. I know it may not be very common for Deaf people to play instruments, but I thought it was considerate feature.

WIKI-Sites :)

When completing the assignment for Wednesday we were asked explore a bunch of "wiki" sites. For example, like wikipedia. There was one site that really caught my eye, wikihow. This site provides a bunch of articles about random topics written by many different people. I started playing around with the website and I found that the site is kind of like an online magazine. If you want to know "how to flirt with a guy" the site has an article about that! Their were a couple of articles about the same subject, but written by different people. I like this site because it has random and fun articles to read about. Today, I read about how to bake cookies on the dashboard of your car. Random articles like this make me giggle and make my day just a little bit better. It was cool to look at this site and appreciate it's existence.

I Love Technology

For the assignment this week we learned how to use Refworks, which I think is a really cool site. I have always had trouble writing bibliographies. I would always get confused on what information went in what order and it would take me an hour to finish all the references for my paper. It was a waste of time writing those dumb bibliographies. But, this site Refworks does all the work for you. You just search for articles for your paper and the articles you need can be directly exported to your Refworks site. Then you put what style you want it in and wah la! A word document shows up on your screen and all the work is done. Hours of work has now turned into 10 minutes of work. Ah man...I love technology. I have no idea how our parents survived back in the ole' days with their typewriters. I am glad and thankful that I learned how to use this wonderful site this week in class. I am gonna share it with all my friends and save them a couple hours of work when writing horrible bibliographies.

Learning Is Fun?!

This week we started working on our e-Portfolios. The first assignment we had to accomplish was the webliography. I had to find five websites that related to what we are learning in this class. I actually had fun doing this assignment. Looking at different websites and exploring them was interesting. I found some really helpful sites, sites that I will use myself now. There was this really cool site called monster facts. It's described as an online almanac, but it's so much more. It was a dictionary, thesaurus, almanac, and encyclopedia all in one AND it had games and quizzes. Naturally, I played around with the site but I didn't think I would be on it for two hours. It was so addicting. Everything I clicked on was a link to something new and interesting. I would really recommend this site for those who have nothing to do because you could play on it for hours. Who would of thunk...working on homework turned out to be fun?

Reflection 1

This is my first blog ever, so bear with me. I am new to writing a blog and after researching some blogs I think I am ready. The most current reading that I have read is, "7 Things to Know About Blogging." It's about this Professor Thomas who came up with the idea of blogging in her class. She made each of students create a blog to discuss the class and its ideas. She found that it worked great because the students got to talk about the class and the students got to know one another better through discussions. Professor Thomas also found that she got to know her students better by reading their posts and their comments on other student's posts. I thought it was a good decision on her hand because it is a good way for students to interact with each other and a good way to talk about the information discuss in class. I am a shy student. I am not the one to sit in the front of the classroom and ask a million questions. In fact, I barely ever talk to my teachers because I am too shy to ask. You would never see me staying after class to ask a question about the material. Instead, I sit in the back where I can't be noticed or called on. I try to figure out the information on my own rather than asking a question.
